STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention is a one day course and involves theoretical and practical exercises involving the use of hoses, extinguishers and BA sets. It’s suitable for seafarers who already have an STCW certificate and are looking to update their skills in order to maintain the required standard of competence as set on in section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. This course is required to be refreshed every 5 years.
This STCW 2010 course provides both a practical and theoretical mixture of training.
Proof of completing the STCW Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention course or equivalent is required. Candidates are also asked to complete a Medical Self Declaration form to prove their fitness prior to completion of training.
STCW updating training is required to be undertaken in line with regulations for seafarers who:
Have 6 months or more sea service prior to 1 August 1998 and were exempt from Basic Safety courses
Seafarers who have a certificate of Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
Upon successful completion, candidates are issued with an MCA approved STCW Updated Proficiency in Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention certificate.
