STCW Proficiency for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties Course Overview

This course is designed to give those undertaking designated security duties on board a ship the essential education and training which meets the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out in the STCW Code and supporting chapter XI-2 of the annex of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 and the ISPS Code.

Course Content:

The course includes the following

  • - The ISPS Code
  • - Threats to the maritime transport industry
  • - Maritime security definitions
  • - Security roles and responsibilities
  • - Company and ship security requirements
  • - Security threat levels
  • - Security measures and procedures

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although some sea experience would be advantageous.

Certification on completion

Upon successful completion of the MCA approved course, all candidates are issued with an STCW Proficiency for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties certificate.
