GWO Working at Height Entry

GWO Working at Height Entry Course Overview

The aims of this Basic Safety Training (BST) Working at Height course is to qualify the participants, through theoretical and practical training, to use basic personal protective equipment and perform safe work at heights and safe and comprehensive basic rescue from heights in a remote wind turbine environment within the GWO Renewables sector.

Course Content:

The BST Working at Height Module shall ensure that:

  • - The participants are able to demonstrate knowledge of hazards and risks associated with working at heights, specific to a Wind Turbine Generator / Nacelle.
  • - The participants are able to demonstrate understanding of current national legislation regarding working at heights.
  • - The participants are able to demonstrate correct identification of PPE, including identification of European/Global standard markings e.g. harness, hard hat, lanyards, etc.
  • -The participants are able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to correctly perform pre-use inspection, service, store and correctly fit relevant PPE, e.g. harness, fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arrest lanyards and work positioning lanyards.
  • - The participants are able to demonstrate correct use of the relevant PPE, e.g. harnesses lanyards, fall arresters and work positioning equipment. This includes correct identification of anchor points and correct ladder conduct.
  • - The participants are able to demonstrate correct use of evacuation devices.
  • - The participants are able to demonstrate how to approach rescue situations in WTGs and use rescue equipment efficiently.

Virtual Reality Training:

Integrated as a cutting-edge, optional training enhancement, the short VR simulator gives both new starts and experienced workers in the industry the chance to experience working at height in an onshore turbine.
Our simulated environment will allow the delegate to experience hands on the turbine architecture, moving up and down the turbine as well as all the safety practices required prior to working at height. Users will experience as close to real life as possible, a truly immersive feeling of working at height, operating the safety equipment and checking and utilising PPE.
Finally, users will also experience potential hazards they may encounter in a real life turbine and will be required to take the necessary actions to limit and remove the hazard and then safely perform an emergency egress from the nacelle.
The virtual reality working at height experience is an optional training enhancement to your GWO working at height booking. Delegates do not need to take part in the experience, and it is only offered should the delegate wish to participate.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must be fit and able to complete all aspects of training.

Certification on completion

All successful delegates are issued with a GWO Approved Working at Height certificate.
