STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship Course Overview

This training is intended for seafarers undertaking their Chief Mates Certificate of Competence and others who are designated to take charge of Medical Care onboard Ship, in accordance with Regulation V1/4 of the annex STCW Convention.

Course Content:

The course provides both a practical and theoretical mixture of training including:

  • - Care of the casualty
  • - Aspects of nursing
  • - Diseases
  • - Alcohol and drug abuse
  • - Dental care
  • - Gynecology, pregnancy and childbirth
  • - Medical care of rescued persons
  • - Death at sea
  • - Disease prevention
  • - Record keeping

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must be at least 16 Years or above. Hold a Proficiency in Medical First Aid On Board certificate, or a Proficiency in Medical Care On Board certificate or its update.

Certification on completion

Upon successful completion of the course all candidates will be issued with an STCW Medical Care on Board Certificate.
